How One Cream Roll Turned Into Pastry Heaven & Coffee Shop
In Leduc’s City Centre Mall, you’ll find Pastry Heaven & Coffee Shop. Though they’re new to the mall, they’re already making their mark. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff. Before I even had a chance to fully take in the pastry case, I could tell this was a place built with care and intention.
Khatuna’s story is the heart of Pastry Heaven. Originally from Georgia, she moved to Canada 11 years ago. Long before there was a storefront, she was baking cream rolls at home for her loved ones. After some encouragement, she began selling her famous cream rolls on Facebook Marketplace and continued baking out of her home for the next eight years. Only recently did Khatuna and Abir feel it was time to take the next step toward achieving her dream.
Pastry Heaven isn’t just local; it’s personal. Khatuna brings a touch of her Georgian roots to the menu, shaping everything from her signature cream rolls to the flavours and techniques found in both her pastries and sandwiches. Part of this influence is going lighter on the sugar, creating a more balanced pastry. It gives the café a distinctive character, blending her heritage with the neighbourhood influence.
Everything at Pastry Heaven is made fresh in-house daily. You won’t find anything that’s a day old. Khatuna starts baking early every morning and often stays long after closing. She’s meticulous, right down to how the pastries are placed in their containers. Every detail reflects the love and effort she puts into her craft. It’s obvious she wants every customer to have a memorable experience.
The café has been incredibly popular from day one. When I visited, they had only been open for two weeks, but they had already grown from four employees to eight. Khatuna explained that their biggest challenge so far has been their success. They frequently sell out or run low on stock before closing, and there have even been times when they’ve had to close early. She shared how upset she feels when visitors—especially those coming from out of town—arrive to find only a few options left, or discover that what they came for is already sold out. Her advice is to arrive early or call ahead so you don’t waste a trip.
Supporting local is also a big part of what makes Pastry Heaven special. Just to give a small idea, their coffee comes from Dark Kiss, a local staple, and their tea is sourced locally as well. Khatuna and Abir are passionate about their community and it’s clear from how they talk about it. They take pride in giving back to the city that has welcomed and supported them. Every detail, from the coffee they pour to the partnerships they nurture, reflects their commitment to keeping Leduc at the centre of their café.
Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying a few things myself. I ordered the cream roll, the caramel cake, and their turkey sandwich. Every bite was delicious, but the cream roll stood out. It was light and perfectly crafted. It’s easy to see how this pastry captured hearts and sparked a small dream that has now grown into a café people are already lining up to visit.
Pastry Heaven & Coffee Shop is more than a stop for coffee and dessert. It’s a place shaped by craft, community, hard work, and a dream that grew from a home kitchen. Whether you’re near or far, it’s worth a visit.
