Whyte Ave Is Calling — Here’s How to Do It Right
Patio season is in full swing, and if you're looking to soak up some sun, colour, and local charm — Whyte Avenue is where it’s at.
Tucked into the heart of Old Strathcona, this iconic street is one part historic, two parts eclectic, and packed with enough character to keep you coming back. Whether you’re in town for a day or a weekend, Whyte Ave always delivers something unexpected.
Here’s a short list of stops I recommend (and yes, I’ve tested them all personally… for research, of course):
📸 1. Sid’s Selfie World
Looking for a backdrop that hits just right? Sid’s Selfie World is a 2,000-square-foot playground of themed sets, neon signs, and photo-friendly corners — ideal for couples, solo adventurers, families, and anyone with a camera roll that could use a refresh. Trust me, your Instagram will thank you.
🍓 2. Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market
Housed inside the old bus barns, this year-round market features over 140 local vendors, from fresh produce and handmade goods to sweet little surprises like Mochi Mama — their mochi is made fresh that morning and it’s worth lining up for. The market is only open Saturdays and Sundays, so plan accordingly.
🎨 3. Whyte Avenue Art Walk
From July 11 to 13, Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue Art Walk turns Whyte into an open-air gallery. More than 400 artists will line the avenue, offering original artwork and good conversation. If you’re the kind of traveler who brings home local art instead of souvenirs, this is your moment.
🍣 4. Damso Izakaya
This is not your typical sushi spot. Damso Izakaya feels like walking straight into a Japanese anime — from the music and design to the digital ordering system and creatively plated dishes. It’s moody, vibey, and a perfect stop for post-shopping bites or a late-night foodie adventure.
Whyte Ave isn’t just a street — it’s a local ritual. It’s where art meets espresso, where you come for the shops and stay for the energy. Whether you’re patio-hopping or just taking it all in, Whyte has always been about community, creativity, and a little bit of adventure.
Support local. Snap the photo. Stay for another round.
See you on Whyte.
